Junior Gavel Toastmasters Club Meeting No. 17/2010(updated)

Gaveliers,

After a month in resting our rather worn-out gavel, here's another meeting to restart the momentum.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?
1. Some of our Gaveliers went together to Gurney Plaza to watch Vampires Suck. Would there be a vampire-themed table topic for them? Does Dog-Man have vampire fangs now?
2. 3 SPEECHES in one meeting after quite a long time of 1-speech meetings. The second project from the new Advanced Comm. Storytelling manual presented by none than our Thevesh 'Luther King' Theva, President. And speeches from both our favourite Teh 'Teddy Bear' Jack, VPPR and May Lyn.
3. And since Table Topics will be run by Simon 'Dog-Man' Gan, it would be a meeting you won't forget. Unless you hate superhero movies.
To those having PMR, sorry for the bad timing, but too bad you'll be forced to miss out. But hopefully you come anyway.
p.s. who wants to evaluate?
See you people!

Report on Gavel Club meeting, 05 June

The meeting started at 3.40 p.m. which was 10 minutes behind the actual time. Due to the lack of Gaveliers in the meeting, our mentor, Dr. Asha decided to give us an educational session about communication. During this meeting, we welcomed 3 new guests : Emily, Sher-Lyn and William.
From this session, we know that the 3 main points of communication are: the Speaker, the Audience and Audio Visuals.
We also discussed about the factors we want in a speaker such as
interesting characters, confidence, knowledge and friendliness.
Some of the not-so-good factors would be:
not acknowledging audiences, impolite, bad body language, lack of loudness, no interaction and hypocrisy.
To cut the long story short, we had everyone including newcomers to prepare a speech and Dr. Asha evaluated us. Since there was no acting role-player present, Thevesh was the Grammarian, Amitaesh was the Timer and Jessie was the Ah-Counter. Every person in the room spoke well and the meeting ended on a high note despite not being a proper meeting.

To all Gaveliers who were not present, please take time to inform the Vice President Education whether you can make it to the meeting. Don't take things for granted, please.

The meeting began with a presidential address from President Thevesh Theva, who emphasized the importance of being in the meeting to 'have fun'. Eligibility
A Gavel Club is one which is unable to comply with provisions of the Bylaws of Toastmasters International and the Toastmasters Club Constitution and Standard Bylaws for clubs requiring that:
(a) Toastmasters clubs shall be composed of members eighteen (18) years of age or over; and
(b) Toastmasters clubs shall have a minimum of twenty (20) members to charter; and
(c) Toastmasters club members, to be in good standing, shall pay prescribed dues and fees.

Request for Certification
A group, subject to any of the limitations rendering it ineligible for chartering as a Toastmasters club, may apply for a "Certificate of Affiliation" as a Gavel Club with Toastmasters International upon accepting the following principles and conditions and complying with the following procedures:

A. In every case, the policies and procedures of the Gavel Club shall be consistent with the policies and regulations of the institution or organization, if any, of which the Gavel Club members are a part and also with the principles and ideals of Toastmasters International.

B. If, at any time, the policies or operation of the institution, organization or the Gavel Club are in conflict with the basic principles of Toastmasters International, or with the functioning of a Toastmasters club or other unit, the Certificate of Affiliation is subject to cancellation by Toastmasters International.

C. The Gavel Club shall submit a Request for a Certificate of Affiliation setting forth:

  1. That it is ineligible to charter as a Toastmasters club;

  3. That the Gavel Club has the approval and endorsement of its institution or organization; that a representative of the institution or organization will serve as coordinator and will counsel the Gavel Club and assume responsibility for its continuity, stability, and compliance with the policies of the institution or organization and of Toastmasters International;
  4. That the Gavel Club intends to use and apply the program, methods, procedures, materials and services of Toastmasters International insofar as its circumstances permit;
  5. That the Gavel Club accepts the financial arrangements adapted to its needs and abilities, and consistent with the interests of Toastmasters International, as agreed upon between the Executive Director of Toastmasters International and the Gavel Club with the approval of the institution or organization;
  6. That the Gavel Club has adopted a Constitution and Bylaws adapted to its circumstances and consistent with the basic principles of Toastmasters International and has submitted a copy to Toastmasters International;
  7. That the Gavel Club agrees to submit to Toastmasters International annual reports, due November 1st of each year, on its membership and activities;
  8. That failure to submit such reports or to comply with the basic principles of Toastmasters International may, in the discretion of the Executive Director of Toastmasters International, result in cancellation of the Certificate of Affiliation; and
  9. That the Gavel Club desires to be known as "__________ Gavel Club, an affiliate of Toastmasters International."

D. The Executive Director, at that individual's discretion, may issue a Certificate of Affiliation to a Gavel Club meeting all of the above requirements.

(a) Shall be authorized to use the name issued to it;
(b) Shall be authorized to proclaim its affiliation with Toastmasters International;
(c) Shall be authorized to possess, display and use Gavel Club emblems and insignia owned by Toastmasters International and authorized for its affiliated groups; and
(d) Shall be authorized to receive and use such educational materials, methods and services of Toastmasters International as are made available to affiliated Gavel Clubs subject to terms and conditions agreed upon between authorized representatives of the proposed affiliated Gavel Club and the Executive Director on behalf of Toastmasters International, within policies established and subject to review by the Board of Directors.

If the affiliated Gavel Club is suspended or in any way rendered inactive by authority of the institution or organization of which it is a part, or if the Gavel Club or its institution or organization ceases to cooperate with Toastmasters International, in the interests of Toastmasters International the Executive Director, in his or her sole discretion, may suspend or cancel its Certificate of Affiliation.

District and Club Involvement

3rd April 2010

Today was a day without assignments. Again.
Loads of Table Topics, however.
This time around, we had a visitor, Mr. Ken. Aunty June ran the show.
Actually, it was Toastmaster Yoga - toastmaster of the evening.
Let's see - everyone did their table topics except two little boys sittiing at the back.
Rather fun - I think I did badly. Onions and garlic - what the *#@$?
Thevesh not here, amitaesh not here, attendence of about 20 - could do better.
